Heritage

Fotomo Photographic Relief

Dynamic Heritage: Elders personally teach children and parents how to play Finnish poles and African drums, using their vitality to bridge age gaps.

Artistic Freeze-Frame: Through sharing photography skills and guiding the creation of Fotomo works, elders help families capture the beauty of the community from fresh perspectives.

In the project 'Walking Together Across Generations', we witness touching moments as elders generously share their wisdom, regaining a sense of dignity and fulfillment in being needed. In return, children respond with pure sincerity and enthusiasm, bringing laughter and renewed energy to their mentors. This reciprocal exchange not only strengthens social bonds but also, through co-creation, fosters respect and connection across generations. Participants genuinely experience the profound warmth and happiness of the Kwun Tong community.

Joy of 'Tsui Ping' Lacquer-Dye Art

The 'Tsui Ping River' is one of the landmarks in Kwun Tong. Elders, by sharing stories about the history of Tsui Ping River and engaging in on-site observations, envision an idealised version of it in their minds. Together with children and guided by artist Ms Chan Wing Sze, they use the intangible cultural heritage technique of 'lacquer dyeing' to dye fabrics. They begin by using pigment pens to draw creatures from the Tsui Ping River, such as turtles and fish, then fill these drawings with cotton to create semi-three-dimensional forms. Finally, the elders express their feelings about Kwun Tong and offer blessings through their art. Each piece is created by stitching two fabric pieces together and adding an edging, symbolising the emotional connection between the elderly and the young.

Co-Creation and Vision

"Kwun Tong from a Unique Height Perspective" — Ink Art

How might Kwun Tong appear when viewed from a different height? While adults navigate the hustle and bustle, children envision a community filled with laughter and companionship. Elders, with brush and ink, capture the whimsical visions of the young, distilling fleeting moments of family, friendship, and neighborhood gatherings into the warm essence of Kwun Tong. In this place, happiness transcends a mere concept; it is a sentiment brought to life in every stroke of ink.

'Butterflies in Pastel Flight' Pastel Harmony and 'Melody of Star Blossoms' Yarn Weaving

Kwun Tong is not just a place to live; it is a home filled with human warmth. An artistic journey that bridges generations unfolds: elders rediscover their childlike wonder through color, while children receive care through storytelling. Their interactions transform the community's sense of happiness into tangible creations. Each hue and texture embodies the spirit of "Co-Creation and Vision", weaving the most heartfelt chapters of community life.

"Butterflies in Pastel Flight": Elders depict joyful living with harmonious pastels, while children add three-dimensional butterflies that symbolise freedom and hope. Their delicate dance reflects aspirations for the future, extending happiness without limits.

"Melody of Star Blossoms": Hands intertwine yarn to weave radiant star-shaped flowers, while windmills spin with imagination, embodying the power of progression. Through intergenerational collaboration, the beauty of life dances in the wind, born from dreams.

"Collaging a Happy Kwun Tong" — Washi Tape Art

Children with special educational needs and their parents join caregivers in collaborative art-making. The team first leads participants on a playful silhouette walk through several iconic landmarks, exploring their personal connections and uncovering the happiness these places evoke. Afterwards, washi tape artist Terrence Chan guides participants in collage-making. Each unique perspective is translated into artworks that reflect diverse imaginations and visions of Kwun Tong, while embodying a deep sense of belonging and abundant happiness.
